Why it matters
What cleaning the whole run actually changes.
At the end of those runs is the plenum — duct board, usually — and behind it the blower wheel. A wheel with a layer of grime on each blade moves a fraction of the air it was built to move, which is why a house can feel weak at the vents long before anything breaks.

A register wiped at the ceiling looks clean from the floor. The run behind it is where the dust actually lives: on the wire helix of the flexible duct most Delray Beach attics are built with.

Registers and boots come down
Every supply and return is removed, so the boot behind it can be reached and photographed rather than guessed at. It is also the point where the faults nobody can see from the room turn up: a boot pulling away from the ceiling, foil tape that has let go at a collar, a connection that has been crushed against a joist.

The full length of each run
The brush travels the tube while the vacuum holds the line under negative pressure, so what comes loose leaves the house instead of the room. Flexible duct is a plastic sleeve over a wire helix, and every ring of that helix is a shelf — which is why the brush goes the whole length of the run rather than an arm's reach in from the opening.

Where every run meets the air handler, and where the heaviest staining is. The cabinet is opened and photographed before anything is touched, because the pattern of the staining is what says how long the system has been pulling unfiltered air, and that is worth you seeing before it is cleaned off.

Pulled where the unit allows it, cleaned blade by blade, and photographed on the way out and on the way back in. This is the part that decides how much air your system can actually move, and it is the part a cleaning that stops at the registers never touches.

It is the part customers write about: seeing how much dust came out, and the gunk on the vacuum filter.
